Phalaswal and Rudrika smashed their opponents in Astana
All of the quarter-finals of the youth age group have concluded at the ASBC Asian U22 & Youth Boxing Championships in Astana, Kazakhstan today.
Altogether 130 female and 267 male boxers from all regions of Asia are competing for the 50 gold medals in the championship.
Turkmenistan’s Mustapa Muhammetdurdyyev was bronze medallist in the last edition of the ASBC Asian Youth Boxing Championships and he is their top hope at the heavyweight (92kg). The Turkmen boxer finished the first round with effective jabs against Kyrgyzstan’s Tynystan Alybayev but his opponent was stronger today and dominated the second which was the finish of their quarter-final.
Chinese Taipei’s Yang Yin Chi had a difficult challenge against Vietnam’s Nguyen Thi Tuyet Mai in the first female contest of the day at the minimumweight (48kg). The 17-year-old girl from Chinese Taipei had strong hooks in the first and second rounds to take the lead on the judges’ scorecards. Yang became her nation’s first youth medallist in Astana and she will now meet Kazakhstan’s Anel Abdrasilova in the semi-finals.
Thailand’s Panisa Kattipirot competed in the recent edition of the ASBC Asian Youth Boxing Championships and she returned to Astana after half year of break. The Thai light flyweight (52kg) boxer tried to keep Uzbekistan’s Zilolakhon Yusufova on long with her longer hands but the Central Asian was energetic today. The Asian Junior Champion Uzbek has done the successful tactical mission and she followed Mr. Timur Akhbayev’s game plan effectively.
India’s Akansha Phalaswal was too experienced for Kyrgyzstan’s Buzeynep Kaparova at the light middleweight (70kg) and she secured her place in the last four. India’s perfect performance in the women’s youth part of the competition was achieved by Rudrika, their middleweight (75kg) talent, who stopped Chinese Taipei’s Lin Qian today.
