Yashwardhan Singh is aiming for his next title and turned back his contest today

India’s Yashwardhan Singh turned back his quarter-final in the ASBC Asian U22 & Youth Boxing Championships in Astana, Kazakhstan today.

Turkmenistan’s Asian Junior silver medallist Sanjar Hamrayev has just joined the youth age group this January and he impressed in the first round against Kazakhstan’s Beksultan Boranbek. The 17-year-old Turkmen overcame the local boy in the attacks but Boranbek also switched into a higher tempo in the beginning of the second round. Hamrayev was tired in the third round, he looked static in the last minutes and Boranbek could turn back their exciting quarter-final contest.

Mongolia’s Tugsbileg Enkhtur has strong family connections to boxing and he had an excellent opener against Chinese Taipei’s Chen Yu Min in the next flyweight (51kg) contest in Astana. Chen moved forward more in the second round but Enkhtur had the speed to increase his advantage to 20:18 on the judges’ scorecards after six minutes. The Mongolian was still fresh enough in the third round and he won the battle of the southpaw boxers in Kazakhstan’s capital.

Kazakhstan’s Hajrulahovic Memorial Tournament winner Zhanseri Kosherbayev was too experienced for Qatar’s Mohamed Alfagay in the first contest of the men’s youth featherweight (57kg) today. The referee stopped the bout in the second round but Alfagay proved progress in the international stage.

Iran’s Seyed Ali Akbar Mirahmadi is one of their most experienced youth boxers but his first round was shocking for India’s Asian Junior Champion Yashwardhan Singh. The Indian boxer’s pressure was better in the second round and he could beat is taller Iranian opponent in their light welterweight (63.5kg) quarter-final today.

Uzbekistan’s Samandar Khabibullayev became the first medallist at the light middleweight (71kg) following his success over Turkmenistan’s Ylham Nazarov. India’s Priyanshu landed several tough shots in his quarter-final bout and he eliminated Chinese Taipei’s Wu Yu En by referee stopped the contest.
