Lauren Price defeats McCaskill, wins WBA and IBO belts
Britain’s Lauren Price (7-0) have won her first world titles in professional boxing. Price on Saturday night in Cardiff defeated Jessica MCCaskill (12-4) and won the WBA and IBO world titles in welterweight division.
Fight was stopped in ninth round because of swelling over McCaskill’s left eye cause by accidental head clash. It went on cards and all judges had scored the fight 90:82 in favor of McCaskill.
“This has got to be up there with winning a gold medal,” Price, the 2020 Olympic champion, said. “Jessica McCaskill is a credit to the sport, but this was my night.
“I want to create a legacy and I honestly believe this is just the start. It took me a couple of rounds to find my rhythm, it was a tough fight… but I enjoyed myself in there tonight.
“I am only going to get better. I am still learning.”
