Walsh, Durkacz and Zakharieiev are in the Round of 16 at the light middleweight
The Ukrainians, Radoslav Rosenov, Aidan Walsh, Oier Ibarreche and Damian Durkacz all won their contests in the fifth competition day at the 2nd World Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event in Bangkok, Thailand.
Spain’s Oier Ibarreche had a very difficult first contest in Bangkok and the 21-year-old light welterweight (63.5kg) boxer delivered even a better performance as second. He had the advantage on the scorecards against Iran’s Elorda Cup winner Ali Habibinezhad and the younger Spaniard amazed in the second round as well to win this fight.
Ukraine’s Olympian Yaroslav Khartsyz regained his place in the national team at the men’s light welterweight (63.5kg) and he sailed to the next stage of boxing without a big challenge. The Ukrainian was too smart for Afghanistan’s Obaidullah Yackobi therefore he can continue the actions in Thailand’s capital.
Bulgaria’s Radoslav Rosenov achieved a silver medal in the recent European Boxing Championships and despite his age of 20, he is one of the most experienced in their national team. The quick Bulgarian felt the rhythm against Germany’s tall David Gkevorgkian and he controlled their Round of 32 contest at the light welterweight (63.5kg).
Ireland’s Aidan Walsh claimed a bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympic Games and he returned to the national team as a fresh boxer this year. He had a great opener at the light middleweight (71kg) and the Irish boy continued his winning path in Thailand’s capital today. Walsh, the Commonwealth Games winner, was too experienced for Algeria’s Islam Youcef Yaiche and he joined the last 16 as Poland’s No.1, Damian Durkacz.
Ukraine’s World Champion Yuriy Zakharieiev a few unexpected losses in the recent two years but he is still one of the strongest punchers at the light middleweight (71kg). The Ukrainian met Lithuania’s Aleksandr Trofimcuk today who was also born in 2002 and he had the similar fighting style. Zakharieiev was better in their many fight and he won their meeting by unanimous decision in Bangkok.
