Azerbaijan, the Dominican Republic, France and Poland all had a fantastic session in Bangkok

France, Azerbaijan, the Dominican Republic and Poland enjoyed a strong session at the seventh competition day at the 2nd World Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event in Bangkok, Thailand.

France’s Samuel Kistohurry competed already in an Olympic Games and he won several big events during his career but he had difficulties in the recent competitions. His Round of 16 opponent, South Korea’s Kim Hyung Seung made surprises in the previous rounds but Kistohurry’s pressure decided their featherweight (57kg) contest.

Shamil Askerov switched from Russia to Azerbaijan and he is now a quarter-finalist at the men’s featherweight (57kg) following his success over Puerto Rico’s Caleb Tirado. His teammate, the ex-Cuban Loren Berto Alfonso, the World Champion, dominated his heavyweight (92kg) bout against Croatia’s Marko Calic.

Mongolia lost their two-time Olympian Erdenebat Tsendbaatar and their next veteran, Enkh-Amar Kharkhuu faced Germany’s teenager Denis Bril today. The 32-year-old smaller Mongolian boxed from longer range and his hooks looked effective in the first round. The German’s defensive skills were better in the second and third rounds and he made a fantastic U-turn in this contest.

Dominican Republic’s Jose De Los Santos eliminated Chinese Taipei’s last male hope in Bangkok, Lee Cheng Wei at the men’s featherweight (57kg) today. His teammate, the Central American & Caribbean Games winner Cristian Javier Pinales dominated his contest against Fiji’s Saratibau Aminiasi at the light heavyweight (80kg) and he secured the next success for the Dominicans.

Poland’s 21-year-old Jakub Straszewski, the Youth World silver medallist, started better than Norway’s Lithuanian-descent Mindaugas Gedminas and his best round was the second therefore his triumph was evident after the last gong.

Belgium’s World bronze medallist Victor Schelstraete had several injures in the recent two years but he recovered in time to Jordan’s Olympian, Odai Riyad Al-Hindawi and he succeeded today.
