Nordic boxing storm in Bangkok

The Nordic boxers impressed in the eighth competition day at the 2nd World Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event in Bangkok, Thailand today.

Ukraine’s European Champion Tetiana Kob is one of the oldest competitors at the women’s light flyweight (50kg) but she began her campaign well enough to beat Poland’s Natalia Kuczewska.

In this weight class, Great Britain’s Savannah Stubbley was too smart for Denmark’s Youth World silver medallist Sofie Rosshaug today.

Finland’s Pihla Kaivo-Oja had the height advantage against Chinese Taipei’s Guo Yi Hsuan in their light flyweight (50kg) preliminary bout and she had the advantage in all of the scorecards after three minutes. The 22-year-old Finnish girl moved forward more in the second round and her skills guaranteed her clear success in Bangkok.

Ireland’s Daina Moorehouse and Armenia’s Anish Grigoryan both impressed as youth boxers in the past and their present as elites are also great. The Irish was smaller than the Armenian but she worked from longer distance and Moorehouse’s speed decided their contest in Bangkok.

Bulgaria’s Zlatislava Chukanova had excellent defensive skills in her Round of 32 contest against Venezuela’s Tayonis Cedeno which was the difference factor between them today.

Finland’s Vilma Viitanen landed the stronger punches in her contest against Poland’s Klaudia Budasz and the referee stopped her opponent after the standing counts which means she is now in the semi-finals at the women’s lightweight (60kg).

Another Nordic hero in this category, Sweden’s Agnes Alexiusson eliminated India’s Ankushita Boro and she is also in the last four in Bangkok.

Bulgaria’s Radoslav Rosenov, the multiple European Champion, had a tall opponent for the quota, Moldova’s Alexandru Paraschiv but he managed that tactical battle. Spain’s Oier Ibarreche exceeded her previous level of boxing and he earned a flight ticket to Paris after beating United States’ Emilio Garcia in the light welterweight (63.5kg).
