Li Qian defeated Lovlina Borgohain in the bout of the day in Usti nad Labem

The Chinese hegemony continued at the 54th edition of the Grand Prix Usti nad Labem which finished with its fourth competition day.

China’s Asian Games winner Wu Yu is one of the favourites for the Olympic gold medal at the women’s light flyweight (50kg) and she won her last preparation event, the Grand Prix Usti nad Labem in the Czech Republic. The experienced Chinese defeated Germany’s Maxi Kloetzer, another Paris Olympian in the final of the Grand Prix.

The next Chinese winner in the last session was Chang Yuan proved her excellent technical skills at the bantamweight (54kg) in the Grand Prix. Chang controlled all of the exchanges against Germany’s Tatjana Obermeier in their meeting and the judges favoured the Chinese boxer in all scorecards.

Marketa Tojnarova represented the Czech Republic at the recent European Games one year ago but she suffered a loss against her main national rival. Tojnarova was not able to keep the best fighting distance against Dominika Ciklova in this re-match and her opponent won the bout by split decision.

China’s veteran Li Qian and India’s Lovlina Borgohain both are Olympic medallists, World Champions and Asian Champions therefore all of the experts were waited for their repeat contest in Usti nad Labem. The Chinese middleweight (75kg) boxer kept her Indian opponent on long in most of the exchanges and her jabs guaranteed her success in this important contest.

Omid Ahmadisafa will represent the Refugee Boxing Team in the Paris Olympics and the ex-Iranian flyweight (51kg) boxer won his last contest in the Grand Prix. The 32-year-old veteran outpointed Germany’s Francesco Messineo and he controlled all of the three rounds.

Czech Republic’s Filip Horvath, the 19-year-old local talent, defeated his compatriot, Jiri Kozel at the featherweight (57kg) in the last session. Another Czech talent, the European Youth silver medallist Erik Suchy and England’s super heavyweight (+92kg) Delicious Orie both succeeded in Usti nad Labem.
