Davis destroys Martin in eight, ready for unification bout with Lomachenko

Gervonta “Tank” Davis (30-0, 28 KOs) stopped Frank Martin (18-1) and retained WBA World lightweight title on Saturday night (June 15) in Las Vegas.

Davis dropped Martin with two ferocious lefts and sent Martin for the first time in canvas. It was the first career loss of Martin.

For Davis was the first fight after 421-day layoff.

After the fight Davis was asked if he is ready to face Vasyl Lomachenko (18-3) in a unification bout. Lomachenko is IBF champion.

Davis confirmed he is ready and promise a KO victory over Lomachenko also. A potential month for this fight would be November.

In undercard of the show on Saturday night, David Benavidez (29-0) won the WBC Interim World light-heavyweight title, beating via unanimous decision Ukraine’s Oleksandr Gvozdyk (20-2). All three judges saw Benavidez as a clear winner (117:111, 119:109 and 116:112).

Alberto Puello (23-0) of Dominican Republic won the WBC Interim World super-lightweight title, beating by split decision Gary Antuanne Russell (17-1). Two judges saw Puello as winner (115:112 and 114:113) and judge David Hudson saw Russell as winner (118:109).

Carlos Adames (24-1) defended the WBC World middleweight title with a dominant points victory over Terrell Gausha (24-4-1).  The scorecards were 119:109, 118:110 and 118:110 all in favor of Adames.
