Strong Italians and Mexicans in the finals of the Golden Belt Tournament
The new edition of the Golden Belt Nicolae Linca Tournament finished with its fifth session in Targu Mures, Romania which was a preparation event for the upcoming main events.
Romania hosted several international competitions in the previous one year and the country arranged already the Dracula Open Youth & Junior Tournament in 2024.
The venue of the event was the Polivalenta Hall in Targu Mures and the new edition of the Golden Belt Tournament featured for the women and men boxers as well.
Ireland’s Clepson Dos Santos Paiva is their next generation boxer at the men’s flyweight (51kg) who controlled his contest against Romania’s Erson Husein from the first seconds and he had the strong performance to win this final bout.
Miguel Martinez qualified for the Olympic Games through the Panamerican Games last October and he not only advanced to the final of the light welterweight (63.5kg) but he had a clear dominance against Istvan Kovari of Romania. The strong Mexican finished the contest in the second round with his serious combinations and the referee confirmed his RSC triumph.
The next Mexican, their No.1 in the national team, Marco Verde, the Panamerican Games winner and the American Champion also dominated his final bout in the Golden Belt Tournament. The 22-year-old Mexican faced another Paris Olympian, the African Qualifier winner Omar Raghab Elawady of Egypt but his punctual shots decided their light middleweight (71kg) final contest.
The Italians amazed in the final day at the Golden Belt Tournament, their three Olympians, such as Salvatore Cavallaro, Aziz Abbes Mouhiidine and Diego Lenzi all succeeded in their title bouts. The European Games winner Mouhiidine and Lenzi both stopped their Romanian opponents already in the first round.
Moldova’s Dmitri Cosciuc had the strong advantage on the judges’ scorecards against Romania’s Robert Alexandru Constantin after two rounds and he finished this cruiserweight (86kg) final with a knockout in the third.
