Armenian day in the semi-finals at the EUBC European Junior Boxing Championships

Armenia impressed in the semi-finals but several nations have finalists at the EUBC European Junior Boxing Championships in Sarajevo, Bosnia & Herzegovina including Croatia, Israel, Moldova, Hungary and Poland as well.

Syuzanna Ishkhanyan is a new Armenian talent in the female part of boxing and she exceeded her previous level of boxing in the semi-finals against Roberta Hadzhiyska of Bulgaria therefore she will meet for the title England’s Lily Bassett.

Hungary’s Patricia Petriman, the last year’s bronze medallist, controlled her semi-final at the women’s flyweight (50kg) against Bosnia & Herzegovina’s last hope, Sejla Biberovic and she will be boxing for the gold with Russia’s Anastasia Golunova.

Poland’s Zuzanna Golebiewska had a crucial battle against her neighbour, Lithuania’s Jelizaveta Jakimova in her semi-final but her success guaranteed her place in the day of the finals at the women’s bantamweight (54kg).

Croatia’s Lorena Horvat impressed in the previous international events and she continued her winning path in Sarajevo as well where she stopped Andjelina Miletic of Serbia at the welterweight (66kg) semi-final.

England’s Rihanna Holden (63kg) was too smart for Ireland’s Kaysie Cleere in her semi-final and her teammate Thabiso Moyo also advanced to the finals after beating Serbia’s Sonja Vuksic in their hectic middleweight (75kg) contest.

Armenia’s Arno Darchinyan spent a short time in the ring against Bulgaria’s Antonio Damyanov when the referee stopped their semi-finals but the Junior World Champion Tihran Ovsepyan, Martin Sahakyan, Samvel Siramargyan and Artyom Stepanyan all advanced to the finals.

Among the Irish talents, Edward Harty (63kg) and John Maher (66kg) both advanced to the finals in the men’s part of the competition but Moldova, Poland and Israel also have finalists in Sarajevo.
