The 10-strong Irish team is ready to get medals at the Paris Olympics

Team Ireland prepares hard for the upcoming Paris Olympic Games where their almost record-breaking of 10 qualified boxers are ready to earn medals.

Boxing is the most successful Olympic sport in Ireland, the national tradition and the country is aiming for new highlights in the French capital city.

Team Ireland bagged five quotas at the European Games and after the 1st and 2nd World Olympic Boxing Qualifying Events, the boxers increased it up to 10.

Kellie Harrington is the defending Olympic Champion at the women’s lightweight (60kg) and she had excellent successes in the recent three years as well to defend her throne in the Paris Olympics.

Ireland’s next gold medal prospect, the European Games winner Aoife O’Rourke will be boxing at the women’s middleweight (75kg) with strong preparation successes.

The Commonwealth Games winner Michaela Walsh (women’s 57kg), Dean Patrick Clancy (men’s 63.5kg) and Jack Marley (men’s 92kg) also qualified from the European Games.

The energetic Daina Moorehouse won the recent National Championships and the former youth star qualified at the women’s light flyweight (50kg) for Paris.

Jennifer Lehane surprisingly defeated the European U22 Champion Niamh Fay and the bantamweight (54kg) boxer used her last opportunity, the 2nd World Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event to win the flight ticket to Paris.

The National Champion Grainne Walsh became Ireland’s No.1 at the women’s welterweight (66kg) where the country has two fantastic former World Champions, Amy Broadhurst and Lisa O’Rourke as well.

Aidan Walsh is another Commonwealth Games winner, he has strong potential at the light middleweight (71kg) in Paris after his last Olympic medal, a bronze from Tokyo.

Jude Gallagher earned a gold medal at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games and he achieved a spot for Paris 2024 at the men’s featherweight (57kg).
