Eight-strong team represents Team USA in Paris

The US team will have four girls and four boys in the Paris Olympic Games in boxing which is slightly below their expectations.

One of their spearheads, the 2021 World Champion Robby Gonzales did not earn a quota at the light heavyweight (80kg) and he will be missing from the Olympics.

Emilio Garcia (63.5kg) is a fantastic talent but he was not able to qualify for the Paris Olympics due to his loss in the Box-off at the 2^nd World Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event.

USA Boxing arranged the US International Invitational Tournament in Pueblo on April between the two World Olympic Qualifiers which was an important preparation event for them before the Olympics.

USA has bright traditions in boxing and the country is the No.1 in the overall medal standings of the Olympic Games ahead of Cuba, Great Britain and Italy.

Four of the US girls have qualified for the Paris Olympics such as Jennifer Lozano (50kg), Alyssa Mendoza (57kg), Jajaira Gonzalez (60kg) and the most promising welterweight (66kg) boxer, Morelle McCane.

The US girls have strong medal potentials in Paris especially the former Youth World Champion Jajaira Gonzalez and Morelle McCane despite their veteran, Naomi Graham did not qualify for the Olympics.

Roscoe Hill claimed a silver medal at the 2021 World Boxing Championships but he had to fight in the last qualification event in Bangkok to earn the quota at the men’s flyweight (51kg).

The 21-year-old Jahmal Harvey was World Champion in Belgrade three years ago and he qualified for the Olympics through the Panamerican Games, and he could be one of the rivals for the Uzbek star, Abdumalik Khalokov.

Their light middleweight (71kg) youngster, Omari Jones also made his debut at the 2021 World Boxing Championships where he achieved a silver medal but since then he had some unexpected losses.

Joshua Edwards won the Panamerican Games in Santiago de Chile and the native super heavyweight (+92kg) talent has medal expectations in Paris as well.
