Australia has the potential to make Paris their best ever Olympics in boxing

The Australians will cover 12 out of the 13 weight categories in the boxing event of the Paris Olympics following their extraordinary performance in the Pacific Games.

Only the men’s heavyweight (92kg) will be concluded without any Australian competitors and following the hard preparation of the squad, several of the Aussies are medal favourites in the Paris Olympics.

Mr. Santiago Nieva joined the Australians as a High Performance Director in 2022 and the team developed rapidly with his leadership.

Australia achieved one silver and four bronze medals during the history of the Olympic Games since 1924.

Their biggest Olympic success, a silver medal, was achieved by Grahame Cheney at the Seoul 1988 Olympic Games where he advanced to the finals at the age of 19.

The Australian boxers attended already in the 1908 edition of the Olympic Games and competed in the boxing tournaments 22-times until 2021.

The best Australian girl, Caitlin Parker, the World silver medallist, is among the medal favourites at the women’s middleweight (75kg) and she has the potential and routine to beat many of the stars as well.

Monique Suraci is a new addition to their women’s boxing team but the light flyweight (50kg) boxer amazed in the preparation events.

Three of their male boxers are also medal contenders in the Paris Olympics, and among them Harry Garside (63.5kg) claimed a bronze in the last Tokyo edition but he returned to the squad in time to qualify for the upcoming Games.

The Commonwealth Games silver medallist Callum Peters is a great talent at the men’s light heavyweight (80kg) while Teremoana Junior Teremoana is the new native sensation at the men’s super heavyweight(+92kg) with fantastic punching power.

The former Youth World hopeful Yusuf Chothia (51kg), the Commonwealth Games competitor Charlie Senior (57kg), and Shannan Davey (71kg) are all experienced boxers in their weight categories with several years of routine in the international stage.
