Testa and Mouhiidine will be Italy’s gold medal favourites in the Paris Olympics

Italy became one of the leaders in the European continent following eight of their boxers have qualified for the Paris Olympics through the three qualification events.

Italy hosted the second quota event, the 1^st World Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event in Busto Arsizio in March which was a great success for them after the European Games.

Italy earned four quotas for the Paris Olympics through the European Games, their Giordana Sorrentino (women’s 50kg), Irma Testa (women’s 57kg), Salvatore Cavallaro (men’s 80kg) and Aziz Abbes Mouhiidine (men’s 92kg) achieved these spots in Poland.

The Italians competed at the Boxam Elite Tournament in the beginning of the year, and they spent a lot of time together with strong boxing teams in their Assisi International Training Camp in the recent months.

Italy’s best ace in the squad, their featherweight (57kg) star, Irma Testa achieved a bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics and the World Champion wants to upgrade that result in Paris.

Aziz Abbes Mouhiidine is one of the best boxers at the men’s heavyweight (92kg) and the European Games winner has all of the skills and routine to beat anyone in the Olympics.

Giordana Sorrentino developed so quickly and the 24-year-old boxer is among the medal favourites at the women’s light flyweight (50kg), same as their veteran World bronze medallist Salvatore Cavallaro.

The technician Sirine Charaabi is a European U22 Champion boxer at the women’s bantamweight (54kg) who succeeded in the second quota event in Busto Arsizio.

Alessia Mesiano became World Champion in 2016 and she returned to the squad in time to win a quota at the women’s lightweight (60kg).

The World silver medallist Angela Carini is also an experienced boxer at the women’s welterweight (66kg) but her category will be super strong in Paris.

Diego Lenzi is a new sensation in the Italian national team, the 23-year-old super heavyweight (+92kg) boxer has only 41 contests but she qualified for Paris through Busto Arsizio.
