Kloetzer and Tiafack are dreaming about Olympic medals for Germany in boxing after 8 years

Germany did not earn any medals in boxing at the Olympics since the 2016 edition but their Maxi Kloetzer and Nelvie Tiafack have the target to fly back the country to the podium.

Germany competed first in boxing in the Olympic Games at the Amsterdam 1928 Olympic Games with eight athletes. Their first medal, a silver was achieved by Ernst Pistulla in that 9th edition of the Summer Olympic Games.

Germany hosted a monumental Olympic Games in Berlin in 1936 where Willi Kaiser and Herbert Runge were their first champions in boxing.

Following the World War II, East Germany achieved four gold, nine silver and ten bronze medals in the boxing events of the Olympic Games until 1988. West Germany’s performance was one gold and five bronze medals in the boxing tournaments of the Olympic Games.

Germany has been re-united in 1990 and their Eastern and Western boxers competed together once again in the Barcelona 1992 Olympic Games. Before World War II and after the two German regions have been united, their total performance in boxing is 4 gold, 9 silver and 10 bronze medals.

Germany claimed two bronze medals at the European Games but none of them delivered quotas for the boxing country.

The promising Maxi Kloetzer, a former European medallist light flyweight (50kg) talent, recovered from her injuries and she returned to the national team in excellent shape which guaranteed her quota for the Paris Olympics.

The powerful Nelvie Tiafack was European Champion super heavyweight (+92kg) in 2022 and the 25-year-old boxer is one of the best hopes for Team Germany to take an Olympic medal in Paris.

The 23-year-old Stefanie Von Berge is the star of their women’s national team, but the reigning European Champion at the welterweight (66kg) was not able to qualify for the Paris Olympics, same happened with the European bronze medallist Magomed Schachidov.
