WBC orders fight between Stevenson and Zepeda

WBC ordered a fight between Shakur Stevenson (22-0) and William Zepeda (31-0) for the WBC World lightweight title.

Stevenson holds the title and Zepeda is number one counter in all four big world federations. Zepeda finally will have chance to fight for the world title.

The pair have until August 20 to agree terms.

“The WBC has ordered the mandatory title defense of our lightweight champion  @ShakurStevenson

 vs  @williamzepeda2 very much looking forward to this great match”, wrote WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman in “X”.

But promoter of Zepeda, Oscar De La Hoya quickly reacted, saying that Zepeda has “four sanctioning body to choose from” and that nobody will tell him whom to fight next. De La Hoya said before that they prefer fighting Denys Berinchyk for WBO lightweight title. De La Hoya said also before that he will not make the fight between them unless Stevenson signs with him.
