Jaime Munguia vs. Erik Bazinyan Confirmed for September 20

Jaime Munguia (43-1-0), will make his comeback on September 20 at the Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale, Arizona, facing unbeaten Erik Bazinyan (32-0-1).

This will be Munguia’s first fight since his career’s initial defeat against Saul “Canelo” Alvarez for the undisputed super middleweight title in May at Las Vegas’ T-Mobile Arena.

Following the end of his co-promotional deal with Golden Boy Promotions, Munguia signed unexpectedly with Top Rank. His performance against Alvarez bolstered his reputation, and the 27-year-old is eager to return to the ring. The bout against the undefeated Bazinyan, 29, also marks Munguia’s first fight since reuniting with Erik Morales after a stint with trainer Freddie Roach.

“I’m excited to return to Arizona against an undefeated and motivated Erik Bazinyan and to have the fight broadcast on the world’s biggest networks,” Munguia stated. “I fight for the fans and look forward to giving them a great show.” Bazinyan, born in Armenia and fighting out of Canada, said, “It’s the perfect timing to shock the world. I’ve worked my entire career for this moment, and I know I’ve got everything it takes to beat Jaime Munguia.”

Todd duBoef, the president of Top Rank, commented, “Erik Bazinyan has been on Jaime’s radar for several years, and Jaime knows he must be at the top of his game.”
