The boxing tournament of the Paris Olympics has finished in the French capital and the Uzbeks amazed once again. Their super heavyweight (+92kg) star Bakhodir Jalolov defended his Olympic title today in the last session of the event.
Uzbekistan claimed five out of the seven male gold medals, while China, Chinese Taipei, Algeria, Ireland and Ukraine were the further nations which bagged Olympic titles in Paris.
Poland’s Julia Szeremeta was a huge surprise in the Olympic Games and she became her nation’s first medallist since 1992. The Polish talent is a smart boxer but she had to meet a more experienced rival, Chinese Taipei’s Lin Yu Ting in the final. Szeremeta did not feel the best fighting distance this time and she was defeated by Lin who is Chinese Taipei’s first ever Olympic Champion in boxing.
Uzbekistan’s Abdumalik Khalokov defeated Kyrgyzstan’s Munarbek Seyitbek Uulu in the semi-finals of the World Boxing Championships and the two boxers met each other in a repeat match in Paris. The Uzbek star, who won all of his contests in the recent three years, gained the control of the final in the first minute but Seyitbek Uulu’s silver medal is Kyrgyzstan’s best ever Olympic boxing performance.
China’s Li Qian achieved a silver medal in the Tokyo Olympics and she was able to change that into a gold in the Paris edition. Li used her long hands against a dangerous rival, Panama’s Atheyna Bylon who is another veteran at the women’s middleweight (75kg). The Chinese was able to keep the focus in all of the three rounds and she defeated the Panamanian by 4:1 split decision.
Uzbekistan’s Bakhodir Jalolov did not underestimate his final opponent at the super heavyweight (+92kg), the European gold medallist Ayoub Ghadfa Drissi El Aissaoui of Spain. The Uzbek dominated the first round which determined the final result of their Olympic title contest in Paris. The Spaniard was brave but Jalolov’s heavy shots, experience and speed guaranteed his second Olympic gold medal after Tokyo.
