The Ukrainians made a strong day in Al Ain
The Board of the Asian Boxing Confederation decided to invite Team Ukraine to the ASBC Asian Junior & Schoolboys & Schoolgirls Boxing Championships where their boxers proved strong performance on Day2.
Al Ain is a historic oasis city in the UAE near to the boarder of Oman and welcomes the best talents.
Ukraine’s Serhii Artemenko won the 2023 edition of the European Schoolboys Boxing Championships and the 15-year-old talent is new in the junior age group. Artemenko had a few preparation events before this championship and he had nice combinations against Turkmenistan’s Hangeldi Lukmanov in the first round of their male junior pinweight (46kg) bout. Lukmanov was competitive in the second round but Artemenko had the technical skills to response all of his tactical changes.
Ukraine’s Davyd Molodan, who is one of their elite national team member’s younger brother, won two out of the three rounds against Turkmenistan’s Mansur Yuldashov and he managed his pathway to the quarter-finals at the light flyweight (48kg). Mongolia’s Bayar-Erdene Bayanmunkh was the next winner in this weight class, he eliminated Vietnam’s Dinh Tuan Phong by 4:1 split decision.
Uzbekistan’s Junior National Champion Muhammad Rizo Ukimov had an excellent finish in the first round and he landed dozens of punches to catch Bhutan’s Rigyel Phunthso. The 16-year-old Uzbek felt that he has the potential and the difference to finish the contest and following his heavy punches the referee stopped this preliminary match in Al Ain.
Tajikistan’s Asian Junior bronze medallist Mansurkhuja Muminov and India’s Harsh are among the favourites of the flyweight (50kg) but they had to meet each other already in the opening preliminary round. Both boxers landed shots in the first round when the referees favoured the Indian but Muminov also proved his amazing talent. The Tajik had a nice uppercut in the middle of the second round but Harsh had the immediate responses to win this final-level bout in Al Ain.
