Zakharieiev, Tudoroiu, Csiki and Buza were the bests at the Moldavian Belt Tournament on Day1

Next to the Golden Gloves of Vojvodina and the Sarajevo Trophy, the Moldavian Belt Tournament started in the city of Iasi in Romania today.

The new edition of the Moldavian Belt Tournament is being held for the U22 and the youth male boxers in Romania.

The venue of the Moldavian Belt Tournament is the Polivalenta Sport Hall where 122 boxers from eight nations are competing for the medals: Belgium, Croatia, Hungary, Israel, Moldova, Romania, Wales and Ukraine.

One of the top stars of the event is Ukraine’s Yuriy Zakharieiev, the 2021 World Champion, who failed to qualify for the Paris Olympics in the recent half year.

The 22-year-old Ukrainian had to meet his main national rival as first, the European Youth Champion Bozorboy Matyakubov but he managed to win that important selection contest therefore Zakharieiev has the right to participate in the upcoming European U22 Boxing Championships in Bulgaria next month.

A youth talent, Arun Tudoroiu is one of the future stars in Romania’s boxing life who spent a short time in the ring today, the referee confirmed his RSC success over Gabriel Simion still in the first round.  

Wales sent a young team to the Moldavian Belt Tournament and among them Cory Jones (54kg) had a tight success over a local boy, Adalbert Pater, while Orlando Holley-Sotomi (75kg) also eliminated a Romanian boxer, Alexandru Buleu on Day1.

Romania’s Ionut Chiriac started the bout better than Hungary’s Robert Csiki but his opponent found the best distance still in time in the beginning of the second round to turn back their light welterweight (63.5kg) bout in Iasi.

Another Hungarian boxer, the European Championships quarter-finalist Rafael Buza landed his shots whenever he wanted against Israel’s Shadbah Safi Abo and the 19-year-old promising hopeful advanced to the next stage at the welterweight (67kg).

The finals of the competition will be broadcasted by the Romanian national TV and all of the fans can follow the event in the YouTube.
