Stevenson undergoes surgery, fight with Cordina is off
WBC World lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson (22-0) sustained a hand injury and had to undergo an immediate surgery.
His scheduled title defense on October 12 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, against Joe Cordina (17-1) is off.
Stevenson was supposed to defend title in undercard of Dmitri Bivol – Artur Beterbiev undisputed light-heavyweight title fight.
Stevenson is expected to return in ring early next year.
“Due to a hand injury sustained by Shakur Stevenson, he is unable to compete against Joe Cordina on Bivol – Beterbiev undercard at upcoming Riyadh Season event on October 12 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The WBC World Lightweight Champion has undergone immediate surgery. After a successful period of recovery, Stevenson is set to return in early 2025”, Matchroom said.
