England’s Reece Readshaw defeated a European Champion in Mostoles on Day1

The 2nd edition of the Enrique Rodriguez Cal Memorial Tournament began in Fuenlabrada, Spain with its first session and the Opening Ceremony.   

Among the girls, Spain’s Marta Lopez and three French talents as Mayssoun Bourega, Kaelya Mopin and Sthelyne Grosy won their opening contests.

Spain’s European Champion Martin Molina decided to continue his boxing career and the 30-year-old flyweight (51kg) boxer used his long range tactics against England’s Reece Readshaw in the first round. The Spaniard moved forward more in the second period which was perfect for Readshaw and the 21-year-old English was able to turn back their contest, causing a top sensation on Day1.

Scotland’s 20-year-old Aaron Cullen joined the GB Team and his physical skills developed well since his last international event. The Scotsman had a more experienced opponent, Samuel Carmona but he dictated the tempo in the first and second rounds to win their bantamweight (54kg) contest in Mostoles.

Juan Pantoja moved back to the bantamweight (54kg) and he looked fresh from the first seconds against Portugal’s Diogo Martins Marques. Following the tough first round, the 21-year-old Spaniard used the bout as a warm-up for the next difficult actions against France’s Christopher Hippocrate who progressed well and defeated England’s Ellis Trowbridge.  

Montenegro’s Tomislav Djinovic, the recent European Championships bronze medallist, moved forward without any stoppage and he had a tight success over Scotland’s Isa Akram despite his opponent’s smart tactics. Spain’s Joan Marcel Raga and his teammate, Victor Manuel Catalino defeated their English and Hungarian rivals at the lightweight (60kg).

Scotland’s welterweight (67kg) No.1, Sonny Kerr is a super talented 19-year-old boxer who had a brilliant performance against Spain’s Joan Rubio, a newcomer from the Catalonia region. England’s defending champion in the event, Odel Kamara turned back his contest against Hungary’s Dominik Enekes after the first round.
