Liz Thijssen and Calvin Mattern were announced as the Best Boxers of the German U17 Open

The last fourteen contests were featured at the German U17 International Open Tournament in Lindow on Day4 where not only the winners but the best boxers of the event were also named.

The young female and male boxers who were born in 2008 and in 2009 were eligible to compete at the German Junior International Open.

Lindow is a small town in Brandenburg region and it is located in an isthmus between two lakes but most importantly, Germany’s capital, Berlin is very near.

Netherlands’ new talent in the women’s part of boxing, Liz Thijssen was named as the Best Female Boxer of the Germany U17 International Open following her three impressive successes at the featherweight (57kg).

The tough contest between Germany’s Xenia Scharapinski and Czech Republic’s Sabina Vochova was announced as the Best Female Fight of the tournament.

Czech Republic’s Alica Lazarova was one of the main surprises in the women’s competition, she overwhelmed Germany’s Charlotte Kienel in the last day of boxing. Her teammate at the women’s lightweight (60kg), Katerina Marynets also succeeded in the start of the session, she defeated Australia’s Seanadh-Leigh McEleney by 4:1 split decision.

A local favourite, the Junior National Champion Calvin Mattern awarded the Best Male Junior Boxer Trophy and the young German proved his strong future potential in our sport dominating the men’s pinweight (46kg) in Lindow.

Two Oceanians such as Australia’s Dylan George Wesley and New Zealand’s Motekiai Huni met in a unique battle of the tournament and both prepared hard for this contest. The New Zealander was slightly better in the exchanges and he took the title of the bantamweight (54kg) but their meeting was choose as the Best Male Bout of the Tournament.

Australia’s Thomas Haworth (60kg), Czech Republic’s Tomas Suchy (63kg) and Ukraine’s Timofii Sydoruk (66kg) were also excellent in the last session of the tournament.
