The English junior girls dominated their finals

The English talents amazed in the female junior finals at the Boxam Youth-Junior-Schoolboys-Schoolgirls Tournament in La Nucia today.

France’s Mohamed Dahmane Djemmal began boxing at the age of 6 but his tactical success over Romania’s European Junior Champion Fabian Stroe was a small surprise at the youth bantamweight (54kg) and he will face for the gold Mexico’s brilliant Roberto Carbajal.

Mexico’s Any Nicole Cardenas started the schoolgirls 57kg weight class better than Spain’s Leyre Rodriguez and the referee counted the local talent after a heavy combination. The 14-year-old Mexican kept continue her hard work and she claimed the first title of the fourth competition day.

England’s Lily Bassett is the reigning European Junior Champion at the light flyweight (48kg) but she did not underestimate her teammate, Ruth Cuthbertson in their final. Bassett proved better performance in the second round and her punctual punches guaranteed her gold medal in La Nucia.

England’s next female junior finalist, Jaya Kalsi felt the tempo against Spain’s Andrea Buelga in the first round and she landed the better shots in their junior flyweight (50kg) final. The 15-year-old English girl was too smart and experienced for the Spaniard and she earned her next tournament title.

Spain’s Paula Garcia used her height advantage well enough against Mexico’s Hanna Cruz and she became the first women’s junior gold medallist from the host country’s team. England’s Siobhan Haley also used her longer reach in the next junior final and she defeated Spain’s Cristina Peinado at the featherweight (57kg).

England’s Tyika Thomas-Soldiew was dominant in her junior lightweight (60kg) final over a smaller Mexican rival. Her teammate, Rihannah Holden also defeated a Mexican opponent, Hyromi Rodriguez with the same tactics while Shannon Warren decided her light middleweight (70kg) final very quickly.
