Albania, Latvia, Scotland and Slovakia are among the female medallist nations in Sofia

Albania, Slovakia, Scotland and Latvia are among the medallist nations in the women’s part of the EUBC European U23 Boxing Championships in Sofia.

Marjona Savriyeva switched from Uzbekistan to Azerbaijan and the 22-year-old light flyweight (50kg) boxer is now a medallist in Sofia. The Azeri girl defeated Scotland’s Neely Brooke in the quarter-final and she will now meet Poland’s Natalia Kuczewska.

France’s Sthelyne Grosy used her long-range tactics against Ireland’s European U22 Champion Niamh Fay and she won their chess game at the women’s featherweight (57kg). Slovakia’s 19-year-old Bibiana Lovasova also managed her path to the medal phase after beating Turkey’s Ece Asude Ediz.

The next French boxer, Cyndelle Bachelet had a tough battle against Wales’ Zoe Andrews but due to her great finish in the last round, she was able to win their bantamweight (54kg) quarter-final.

Latvia’s Anna Sorokina earned her first European medal after beating Spain’s Maria Horche at the lightweight (60kg) while her teammate, Kitija Zarberga eliminated Ireland’s Kaci Rock at the welterweight (66kg).

Albania’s Esmeralda Novruzaj defeated Armenia’s Sona Harutyunyan and she earned a historic female medal for her nation. Scotland’s Caitlin Rainey has only two years of experience in our sport but she succeeded against Turkey’s Yaren Duztas in the key contest.
