The top female boxers secured their spots in the finals at the EUBC European U23 Boxing Championships

All of the top names advanced to the women’s finals in the EUBC European U23 Boxing Championships in Sofia, Bulgaria.

Boxers from the 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005 age groups are eligible to participate in the EUBC European U23 Boxing Championships in Sofia.

Poland’s Natalia Kuczewska earned a silver in the 2021 Youth World Championships and the 21-year-old boxer is now one of the top names at the women’s light flyweight (50kg). She eliminated the former Uzbek Marjona Savriyeva of Azerbaijan and she will now meet Serbia’s Kristina Nadj-Varga for the title.

Serbia’s Sara Cirkovic, the Paris Olympian and the European Elite Champion, boxed out Ireland’s Robin Kelly with her nice technical skills and she will be boxing for the gold medal of the bantamweight (54kg) with England’s younger Lauren Mackie.

The next Paris Olympian, Montenegro’s Bojana Gojkovic found the best rhythm in the first round against Belarus’ Maryna Muliarchyk and she is also a finalist in her next European Championships in Sofia where she can expect a hard battle against France’s 22-year-old Sthelyne Grosy.  

Ukraine’s Tetiana Dovhal earned several medals in World and European Championships during her career and the 20-year-old boxer can prepare to a final at the lightweight (60kg) after beating England’s Sameenah Toussaint.

Serbia’s Kristina Kuluhova, a European Champion, was too experienced for Albania’s Esmeralda Novruzaj and she can fight England’s tall Sacha Hickey for the title of the light welterweight (63kg) in Sofia.

Romania’s Loredana Andreea Marin, a former European Youth Champion, moved up to the welterweight (66kg) but she adopted the strength of the punches well enough to beat Latvia’s Kitija Zarberga therefore she will now meet Ukraine’s Natalia Merinova.

The big names of the heavier weight categories, such as Ireland’s 2022 World Champion Lisa O’Rourke (70kg), Turkey’s European U22 Champion Busra Isildar (75kg) and Moldova’s Daria Kozorez (+81kg) all advanced to the finals in Sofia.
