Team Ukraine, Rosenov and Cesar impressed in the men’s finals in Sofia

Ukraine claimed five gold medals in the men’s finals at the EUBC European U23 Boxing Championships in Sofia, Bulgaria where Radoslav Rosenov and Yojerlin Cesar also impressed.

Ireland’s Louis Rooney is a new face in the national team but he exceeded all of the expectations in this event and he defeated Azerbaijan’s Tural Sariyev which means the country won the smallest weight categories both in female and male sides.

Armenia had several finalists in the event and after Elida Kocharyan’s tight success in the women’s competition, their Rudolf Garboyan won the title of the men’s flyweight (51kg) against Azerbaijan’s Paris Olympian Nijat Huseynov.

Georgia’s Gor Ayvazyan had excellent results among the schoolboys, junior and youth talents and he continued this strong pathway among the U23 boxers as well. The 19-year-old Georgian controlled two out of the three rounds against Armenia’s Ruslan Aslikyan to win the featherweight (57kg).

Bulgaria’s Radoslav Rosenov was one of the top names in the entire championships and the Olympian proved his technical superiority in Sofia. He defeated Armenia’s Artur Sahakyan and won his next European title at the lightweight (60kg), delighting the home crowd.

Following Rosenov’s gold medal, Ukraine’s moments made their country proud, firstly Danil Zamorylo took the light welterweight (63.5kg) title, then Danylo Lozan bagged the welterweight (67kg) gold.

Their World Champion, Yuriy Zakharieiev is back on track, he defeated Lithuania’s Aleksandr Trofimcuk in the final of the light middleweight (71kg). His teammates, such as Dzhamal Kuliiev (75kg) and Vasyl Tkachuk (+92kg) also defeated their Bulgarian and Greek rivals.

France’s No.1, the defending champion Yojerlin Cesar demonstrated his technical skills against Azerbaijan’s Olympian Murad Allahverdiyev and he defended his light heavyweight (80kg) throne.

Ireland’s Thady Joyce (54kg), England’s Teagn Stott (86kg) and Turkey’s Emrah Yasar (92kg) won the remaining weight categories in Sofia.
