Albania, Turkmenistan, Spain, Moldova and New Zealand all have quarter-finalists in Budva
Besides to the top nations, Turkmenistan, Albania, Spain, Moldova and New Zealand all have quarter-finalists at the IBA Youth World Boxing Championships in Budva.
Poland’s Amelia Kostrzewa reached excellent results this year, she claimed a silver at the Adriatic Pearl Youth Tournament in Budva and she returned to the boxing city. The Polish shocked Croatia’s European Youth Champion Mariela Steko in the first round and she could keep the top opponent on short to win this Round of 16 bout.
Cuba’s Yojander Fuentes competed in the recent two editions of the Adriatic Pearl Youth Tournament in Budva and the 18-year-old featherweight (57kg) boxer was impressive against Greece’s Georgios Pleas. The Greek showed also his excellent technical skills but Fuentes’ strength was the key factor in this preliminary today.
Turkmenistan’s best youth boxer, Sanjar Hamrayev was eliminated in the Round of 16 but his teammate, Ysmayyl Gurbanberdiyev made a history for the country, he advanced to the last eight after beating Albania’s Bujar Hekuri.
Armenia’s Erik Arstamyan demonstrated his power against Turkey’s Cagri Fidan in the featherweight (57kg) and after the standing counts, the referee stopped the bout. His teammate, Arshak Bablumyan had a more difficult job against Lithuania’s Vladimir Abramovas but he succeeded at the light middleweight (71kg).
Moldova’s Igor Bondar won a tight contest over Puerto Rico’s Jesus Pizarro at the light middleweight (71kg) before his teammate, Pavel Zadorojniuc was knocked down by a strong Kyrgyz, Mukhammadaziz Zakirov at the light heavyweight (80kg).
Spain’s Yolber Daniel Bandomo, the 17-year-old top talent, turned up the heat from the second round and he eliminated Colombia’s Jose Fernando Salas at the light heavyweight (80kg) before Poland’s Igor Marek Rondos won his next battle. Armenia’s Armen Poghosyan, Uzbekistan’s Javokhir Mekhriddinov and Russia’s Ruslan Shikhmambetov succeeded in this weight class as well.
