The line-ups of the quarter-finals are confirmed in Budva
All of the quarter-final line-ups are confirmed at the IBA Youth World Boxing Championships in Budva, Montenegro during the event session.
Croatia’s European Youth Champion Mariela Steko was eliminated in the previous session therefore her teammate, Lana Paljusic planned to do a surprise against China’s Wang Miqi at the women’s featherweight (57kg). The 17-year-old Croatian gave in everything but she received counter-punches from the Chinese girl and her medal dreams are also over.
Hungary’s Sara Varga, the 17-year-old talent, decided her women’s featherweight (57kg) contest less than one minute, she destroyed Lesotho’s Realeboha Segoete. Another African boxer in this weight class, Zimbabwe’s Shakeerah Balakazi Julaykah worked much better than the talent from Lesotho, but she lost to her Mexican opponent.
Venezuela’s Diana Alejandra Maestre exceeded all of the expectations in her Round of 16 bout at the women’s featherweight (57kg) when she bowed out Kazakhstan’s Ayazhan Yermek with a strong finish in the last minutes.
Azerbaijan’s Aynur Mikayilova started the first round in different rhythm as Romania’s Gabriela Cioroba and her fighting spirit delivered an early success for her. Her teammate, the European Junior Champion Mahammadali Gasimzade had a lucky success over Mexico’s Harold Santos at the men’s lightweight (60kg).
France’s No.1, Sandro Spica won his last preparation event, the Boxam Tournament in Spain and he had another perfect performance today against Bulgaria’s European Youth Champion Viktorio Iliev. Tajikistan’s Damir Muybalikhonov also worked well in this weight class and he bowed out South Africa’s Amila Gangqa.
Kyrgyzstan’s strong Tynystan Alybayev felt the tempo against Turkmenistan’s Mustapa Muhammetdurdyyev from the first seconds and he dominated that heavyweight (92kg) contest. Iran’s Amir Reza Malek Khatabi was also too strong for his rival while China’s Chao Kuo won the last bout of the evening session.
