Sixteen nations shared the final spots in Budva

Sixteen nations shared the 50 final spots at the IBA Youth World Boxing Championships in Budva, Montenegro after all of the semi-finals are concluded.  

Kazakhstan’s Yelyanur Turganova was the favourite against Greece’s Maria Georgopoulou and after the first tactical round, she amazed the experts. She produced an incredible second round when she caught her Greek opponent by several nice hooks and joined the final of the light flyweight (50kg) where she will now meet Ireland’s Carlagh Peake.

Venezuela’s Genesis Horta had competitiveness in her semi-final after the first round but she was not able to turn back the contest against Russia’s 17-year-old Diana Sikstus. The Venezuelan came from the unknown and she proved her fantastic fighting spirit in this semi-final bout at the bantamweight (54kg) but Sikstus will meet France’s Maloe Teresi in the final.

DPR Korea made a strong return to the international stage and their second female finalist will be Son Su Rim who had a successful mission against Tunisia’s Molka Khalifi at the women’s lightweight (60kg). Kazakhstan’s Uldana Taubay and Ireland’s Kyla Doyle Byrne advanced to the title bout at the women’s welterweight (66kg).

Kazakhstan’s Beksultan Boranbek progressed a lot this year and the flyweight (51kg) boxer dominated his semi-final against Iran’s Mehdi Kazemi with his speed therefore he can prepare to his final against Colombia’s new surprise, Justin Munevar Moreno.

Uzbekistan’s Samandar Olimov had virtuoso style of boxing in his featherweight (57kg) semi-final and the genius made a lesion to Kazakhstan’s promising Zhanseri Kosherbayev therefore he will now meet Cuba’s Yojander Fuentes for the gold medal.

Uzbekistan’s Abdulaziz Jurakulov began boxing in 2015 and until this event he could not compete in a major championship but now he is a finalist in Budva. Kazakhstan’s Asian Youth Champion Oner Seilkhan proved the next fantastic performance today.
