Chinese Taipei’s young team achieved three medals in the first day of the quarter-finals in Chiang Mai
Twenty-two medallists have celebrated their medals at the ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships in the city of Chiang Mai, North Thailand after the first part of the quarter-finals.
Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, Chinese Taipei, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Malaysia, Mongolia, Nepal, Philippines, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, Tajikistan, host Thailand, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan and Vietnam are the 21 participating nations in the ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships.
Kazakhstan’s Dulat Bekbauov, the silver medallist from the 2022 edition of the ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships, stopped Malaysia’s Muhammad Ariff Aiman with heavy body shots in their welterweight (67kg) quarter-final and he proved one of the best performances of the day.
Chinese Taipei’s Liu Cheng En won the battle of the 20-year-old talents in the next middleweight (75kg) contest in Chiang Mai, he was slightly better than Sri Lanka’s Yazmin Mohommed Usaith today.
Kazakhstan’s Dias Molzhigitov walked over to the semi-finals due to Daigo Sunaga’s sickness while Ukraine’s Pavlo Illiusha secured the last medal in this weight class after beating Turkmenistan’s Muhammet Babayev.
Kazakhstan’s Aigerim Sattibayeva is a veteran in our sport but the 33-year-old boxer had the stamina and the fighting spirit to beat Philippines’ newcomer in the elite national team, Ofelia Magno who could have a bright future in the new cycle.
Uzbekistan’s Paris Olympian Sabina Bobokulova is only 21 but she is a multiple Asian Champion with impressive technical skills. Bobokulova is small at the light flyweight (50kg) but she jumped into the best distance in the first round effectively to gain the control against Mongolia’s Altanbyek Khulan. Bobokulova and the Mongolian both had excellent footwork but in this technical style of boxing the Uzbek was better today.
Thailand’s aces such as the Asian Champion Bunjong Sinsiri, Chuthamat Raksat and Natnicha Chongprongklang all earned their well-deserved medals today.
