The top 24 women boxers will fight for the 12 titles in Chiang Mai
The women’s final line-ups are all confirmed at the ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships in the city of Chiang Mai, North Thailand today.
Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, Chinese Taipei, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Malaysia, Mongolia, Nepal, Philippines, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, Tajikistan, host Thailand, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan and Vietnam are the participating nations.
The 21-year-old Farzona Fozilova had better achievements in the past and she outpointed her neighbour from her best range therefore she will now meet for the title of the women’s minimumweight (48kg) Vietnam’s teenager Ngo Ngoc Linh Chi who eliminated Chinese Taipei’s big talent, Guo Yi Hsuan.
Yara Alamri reached a sensational result for her nation and she is the first medallist from Saudi Arabia in women’s boxing. The 20-year-old Saudi had a smaller semi-final opponent, Ukraine’s Svitlana Umanska and she tried to keep her on long. The more experienced Ukrainian switched into a higher tempo in the beginning of the second round and after the third standing count the Thai referee stopped this semi-final which means Umanska will now meet for the title of the flyweight (52kg) Feruza Kazakova of Uzbekistan.
Uzbekistan’s first ever female World Elite medallist was Aziz Yokubova who moved up to the bantamweight (54kg) in the previous months to compete in Chiang Mai. The 30-year-old Uzbek moved forward against her taller opponent, China’s Xu Wenqian, without any stoppage to catch the technician boxer. Wu was not able to keep the best distance and Yokubova’s pressure delivered a success for the attacking Uzbek boxer.
Vietnam’s 31-year-old Ha Thi Linh is the most experienced female boxer at the light welterweight (63kg) and the Paris Olympian found the best angles to beat Mongolia’s Ganzorig Badmaarag in the first semi-final. Thailand’s Thananya Somnuek landed the stronger punches in the next bout against Kazakhstan’s Aida Abikeyeva but she suffered a loss in this challenge today.
