Sachin and Jamwal are among the winners at the Indian Men’s Elite National Championships

The Indian Men’s Elite National Championships was held in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh and the event served as the first selections for the main events in 2025.

The Indians qualified several boxers for the Paris Olympics but their boxers were unable to earn any medals last summer.

The Services Sports Control Board (SSCB) won the team rankings ahead of the squads of RSPB, All Indian Police, Himachal Pradesh and Haryana.

A young SSCB boxer, Jadumani Singh Mandengbam won the first final in the elite national event, he defeated Naotoi Khongkham at the 50kg weight class.

Police’s Manish Rathore competed in several national events and in some international youth events but his success over SSCB’s Pawan Bartwal is his career highlight.

Sachin was near to qualify for the Paris Olympic Games but the 22-year-old boxer failed his last important bout in Bangkok more than a half year ago. Sachin moved up to the 60kg weight class successfully in the recent weeks and he defeated Punjab’s U22 hope, Nikhil in the final of the competition.

Himachal Pradesh’s Abhinash Jamwal joined the elite national team only in 2024 but he received the right to compete at the 2nd World Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event in Bangkok. The 22-year-old strong puncher moved up to the 65kg weight category and he had the skills to beat Amit in the fourth final of the Nationals.

Lakhsya Chahar also represented India in several international competitions therefore his success over Delhi’s Dhruv Singh was not a surprise at the 80kg weight class final.

A Police boxer, Sumit defeated Jugnoo in the final of the 85kg category before SSBC’s Vishal caused a surprise against the former Commonwealth Games bronze medallist Naman Tanwar at the 90kg title bout.

Narender Berwal will turn 31 this year but he is India’s top boxer at the +90kg weight class which he proved against Anshul Gill in the final.
