Iceland arranged its amazing Icebox Show with 2,500 spectators

Iceland is a developing boxing country in the edge of Europe and the Nordic nation is proud of its progress in all aspects of sports.

Their sensational Boxing Show, the Icebox was a huge success and a new milestone in Iceland’s boxing life.

The number of the spectators was 2,500 in the small island which means nearly 1% of the whole population followed the bouts in the venue.

One of their energetic coaches, Mr. David Runar Bjarnason arranged the Icebox show and between the seven exciting contests, Iceland’s best musicians had a concert with a big applause from the crowd.

Mr. David Runar Bjarnason works as coach in the team of Hnefaleikafelag Reykjavikur and he supported the success of the Icelandic boxers in several international events.

The competition was an impressive success for Sigurbergur Einar Johansson (U15, 56kg), Artem Siurkov (U17, 66kg) and Robert Smari Jonsson (U19, 86kg).

Erika Nott Einarsdottir is 18-year-old but she is a fantastic talent, she is Iceland’s first Nordic Champion and as expected she defeated Hildur Kristin Lofsdottir in the lone female contest of the Icebox.

Elmar Gauti Halldorsson, the Enrique Rodriguez Cal Memorial Tournament medallist, moved up to the cruiserweight (86kg) but he had the technical skills to beat Gabriel Marino Robertsson by unanimous decision.

Hafthor Magnusson (men’s 67kg) and Teitur Olafsson (men’s 71kg) were the further winners in the Icebox gala.

Iceland competed at the 2006 edition of the European Boxing Championships first and their athletes had a few participation in the major competitions

Iceland earned a gold medal in an international tournament in Spain the country hosted the 2022 Nordic Boxing Championships for the very first time which was a great success for them.

The Icelandic boxers are planning to participate in the next edition of the Boxam Elite Tournament in La Nucia, Spain on February 3-9 in 2025.
