Connor Williams made a superb U-turn in his heavyweight semi-final

A young Welsh boy from Swansea, Connor Williams made a strong U-turn in his heavyweight (92kg) semi-final and he is a finalist at the Boxam Tournament in La Nucia.

England’s Patrick Hewitt got a big scalp in the semi-finals of the light middleweight (71kg), he defeated Kazakhstan’s Youth World silver medallist Yelnur Suyunbay in a hectic contest which opened the fourth competition day. The English will now meet another Kazakh in the final of the Boxam, the former Asian Youth Champion Darkhan Duisebay who eliminated the local favourite, Frank Sanchez.

Spain’s Pablo Coy bowed out one of the favourites at the light heavyweight (80kg), China’s World silver medallist Tuohetaerbieke Tanglatihan in the quarter-finals and he planned to deliver his next strong performance in La Nucia. The 24-year-old Spanish landed several body shots against the Youth World silver medallist Daulet Tulemissov and he won their tight meeting by 3:2 split decision.

England’s Oladimeji Shittu has been preparing hard to compete in a big championship for the very first time during his career and he invested a lot of effort to keep the control from the first seconds against China’s Xinjiang-based Halimulati Rehemandu. The English used his excellent footwork to beat his Asian opponent and he marched to the finals of the men’s light heavyweight (80kg) after Pablo Coy.

England’s European U22 Championships silver medallist Isaac Okoh is a super talented boxer at the heavyweight (92kg) and he could be one of the sensations of the year. The tall English let his Chinese opponent go closer and he countered Aizihaier Tuohongdaji successfully to secure a spot in the finals.

Ukraine’s Bogdan Tolmachov competed mostly at the cruiserweight (86kg) in the recent years but he moved up heavyweight (92kg). The Ukrainian controlled the first round against Wales’ Connor Williams but his inexperienced rival came back to the bout in the second and he made a big U-turn in this fight.
