Mr. Vasile Citea – The Dracula Open is the strongest non-elite competition in the world now

The President of the Romanian Boxing Federation, Mr. Vasile Citea introduced his opinion about the Dracula Open Tournament in a specific interview to underline their biggest strengths and also their future plans.

“We are trying to be better years by years in this important Dracula Open Tournament which is one of the strongest non-elite competitions now.

We have a great staff to solve all of the issues before and during the tournament and I am satisfied with my LOC team.

It was not so easy to find out which countries can take part in our event this year due to the situation but finally top nations joined to us again.

We hosted the Dracula Open Tournament in various cities and the idea was to move the competition cities to cities to promote boxing all regions in Romania.

Brasov was the first event a few years ago and Dracula’s castle is near therefore we decided to use this name. Dracula is a real Romanian brand, even Asian countries identify our country with this historic person, therefore I think it was a good decision to name the event after Vlad Dracul.

The top nations as Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan competed in the Dracula Open once again and we can learn from them, to understand their level and skills. It is important to take the best nations to Romania to develop our girls and boys.

I am satisfied with the performance of our youth boxers in this Dracula Open, the juniors could be better but we are working on it. We had three strong gold medals in the men’s youth competition and all of them are our real future stars.

We are looking for the next steps as well but we have the plan to host the European Youth Championships in Romania in September.

We are planning to host our elite international competition, the Golden Belt Tournament as well and April or October could be the options for it.

The 2026 edition of the Dracula Open will be fixed in the end of this year when we will decide the budget,” said the President of the Romanian Boxing Federation, Mr. Vasile Citea.
