The IOC Executive Board proposed the inclusion of boxing in the next Los Angeles 2028 Olympics
The Executive Board of the International Olympic Committee proposed the inclusion of boxing on the official sports program of the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games today.
The next 144th IOC Session will be held in Costa Navarino, Greece on March 19-21 which could include officially boxing to the program of the next Summer Olympics.
The World Boxing has established on April 2023 to the main goal to bring back our sport to the official program of the 2028 Olympic Games.
The Executive Board of the International Olympic Committee granted a provisional recognition for the World Boxing as the International Federation and a global governing body of boxing on February 26 and a full recognition is expected very soon.
The last edition of the boxing event in the Olympics was held in Paris last July-August which was hosted by the International Olympic Committee’s Boxing Task Force.
The Paris Olympic Games celebrated 6 female and 7 male champions last summer and altogether 248 boxers from 68 nations qualified in these 13 weight categories.
Record-breaking of 32 countries earned at least one medal in the boxing event of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games a few months ago.
“This is another very significant day and an important decision for Olympic boxing and takes the sport one step closer to being restored to the Olympic sports program in Los Angeles.
I have no doubt it will be very positively received by everyone connected with boxing, at every level throughout the world who understands the critical importance to the future of the sport of boxing continuing to remain a part of the Olympic Movement,” said Mr. Boris Van der Vorst, the President of World Boxing after the important decision which was made today.
