Hrgovic defeats Joyce, wants a rematch with Dubois
Filip Hrgovic (18-1, 14 KOs) defeated Joe Joyce (16-4, 15 KOs) on Saturday night in Manchester via unanimous decision and captured the WBO International heavyweight title belt.
Hrgovic stepped as late replacement for Dillian Whyte, who had to cancel because of an injury, and he got the victory.
All three judges saw him as winner (97:93, 98:92 and 96:94).
After the fight Hrgovic said that he wants a rematch with IBF World heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois. Dubois defeated Hrgovic via TKO in round eight on June last year.
“This guy [Joe Joyce] beat Dubois, and I beat him. So, I want a rematch with Daniel Dubois,” said Filip Hrgovic to DAZN Boxing following his victory over Joe Joyce tonight, saying he wants a rematch with IBF heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois.
“I did really bad in my last fight. Congratulations to him. He did an amazing job last year, and of course, I would like to have a rematch. I would like to fight in a title eliminator and fight for a title. That’s my goal, to win a world title. I think I need one more fight to get in position,” said Hrgovic.
Joyce made clear his intention to continue his career.
David Adeleye (14-1) stopped Jeamie Tshikeva (8-2) in round six and captured BBBofC British heavyweight title.
