Fourteen weight categories and 248 quotas in boxing for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics

Boxing returned to the official Olympic program a few weeks ago and the exact agenda has been approved by the International Olympic Committee.

The Paris Olympic Games celebrated six female and seven male champions last summer and altogether 248 boxers from 68 nations qualified in these 13 weight categories.

Record-breaking of 32 countries earned at least one medal in the boxing event of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games a few months ago.

The total number of quotas will not change in the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games which means boxing granted the same 248 spots.

The number of the weight categories has been increased up to 14 with one additional female category in terms of the full gender equality.

The seven women weight categories in the 2028 Olympics will be as follows: 51kg, 54kg, 57kg, 60kg, 65kg, 70kg and +80kg.

The men’s boxers can compete in these seven weight classes in Los Angeles: 55kg, 60kg, 65kg, 70kg, 80kg, 90kg and +90kg.

The 144th IOC Session approved the proposal of the Executive Board of the International Olympic Committee and included boxing to the official sports program of the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games in mid-March.

The 144th IOC Session was held in Costa Navarino, Greece on March 19-21 which was the most important sport meeting of the year where boxing has been announced as official sport of the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.

Boxing will continue its Olympic presence which is a major step forward to our sport and boxers can dream about their Olympic medals in Los Angeles 2028.

The Executive Board of the International Olympic Committee granted a provisional recognition for the World Boxing as the International Federation and a global governing body of boxing on February 26.
