Kyrgyzstan’s Olympic silver medallist Munarbek Seitbek Uulu started his campaign in Pueblo with a triumph

Kyrgyzstan’s Olympic silver medallist Munarbek Seitbek Uulu were among the winners in the opening sessions at the USA Boxing International Open Tournament which started in the Pueblo Convention Center in Pueblo, Colorado..

New Zealand’s Finbar O’Sullivan competed at the U19 World Boxing Championships in Pueblo last October and the Kiwi boxer returned to the city to increase his international experience. O’Sullivan met Minnesota’s Morgan McDonald and he worked hard enough to beat his opponent by unanimous decision.

Australia’s Jacob Friend also participated in the recent U19 World Boxing Championships in the United States last October and he is still in this age group as the New Zealander. The Aussie boxer had the advantage on the scorecards in the first round against Sevein Portillo and he finished the job in the second on their 55kg weight class bout.

Pacific Northwest’s Joseph Nieto was too experienced for Nehemiah Chapman at the U19 65kg weight class but South Texas’ Ezariah Garcia also proved his strong progress

Kyrgyzstan’s Asian medallist Zafarbek Kamilov is only 19 but he proved an energetic performance against Jorge Villarreal to win their elite 55kg weight class bout with technician style of boxing. His teammate, the Olympic silver medallist Munarbek Seitbek Uulu was confident against Edem Kokou Amedjonekou.

The next young Kyrgyz boys at the elite 70kg weight class also amazed in the opening round of the event. Eldar Turdubayev was too strong for Benjamin Lincoln while the Boxam Tournament winner Ikhtiyor Nishonov controlled all of the three rounds against Maximilian Erfani.

Australia’s Riek Chuol had a successful mission against Kyrgyzstan’s Asian bronze medallist Sanzhai Seidakmatov at the 55kg while another Oceanian, Fiji’s Josaia Veiqaravi delivered also a surprise success over Marco Jones at the 70kg.
