Cruz vs. Roach ends in a draw, Lara and Foster with convincing victories

Isaac Cruz (28-3-2) dropped Lamont Roach (25-1-3) in round three on Saturday night in San Antonio, but the fight between them for WBC Interim World super-lightweight title ended in a majority draw.

Cruz was deducted one point in round seven for a kidney punch and in the end two judges scored the fight as draw 113:113 and one saw Cruz as winner (115:111).

Both fighters claimed they won the fight. For Roach was second draw in a row, after the draw against Gervonta Davis in March this year. Also he was down for the first time in professional career.

In co-main event O’Shaquie Foster (24-3) won the WBC Interim World lightweight title, beating Stephen Fulton (23-2) via unanimous decision. Judges scored the fight 118:110, 119:109 and 117:111 for Foster.

42-year-old Erislandy Lara (32-3-3), oldest actual world champion, defended his WBA Super World middleweight title. He won via unanimous decision over late substitute Johan Gonzalez (36-5). Lara dropped Gonzalez in round one and twelve and judges scored the fight 118:108, 120:106 and 119:107.

Lara was supposed to fight against Janibek Alimkhanuly, the IBF World and WBO World champion, in a unification bout. But fight was canceled at beginning of week after Kazakh resulted positive for banned substance.
