Rahimov, Saunders, Kelly, Czifra, Kozak, Antochi and Roganovic amazed in the men’s finals in Kienbaum
Gardash Rahimov, William Saunders, Sean Kelly, Istvan Czifra, Bohdan Kozak, Alberto Antochi and Milos Roganovic amazed in the men’s finals of the European U17 Boxing Championships in Kienbaum, Germany today.
Azerbaijan’s Gardash Rahimov won the CIS Junior Games in Yevlakh two months ago and he became European U17 Champion today after beating Romania’s Birham-Pasa Iuseim at the 46kg.
Ukraine’s Mykhailo Sydorenko eliminated one of the main favourites, Georgia’s Shalva Beridze in the semi-final at the 48kg but he was defeated by England’s William Saunders for the gold.
Ireland’s Sean Kelly was named as one of the favourites at the men’s 52kg weight class and he accomplished that target in Kienbaum. He increased his rhythm from the second round which guaranteed his success over Turkey’s strong Yigit Keskin.
The next Turkish male finalist, Muhammet Ali Arli was precise and well-focused in his title bout and he triumphed over Italy’s Francesco Zonile at the 54kg.
Italy’s Daniele Fabi was better minutes by minutes and with his great finish, he defeated Ireland’s Kalib Walshe at the 57kg final.
Hungary’s best male hope, Istvan Czifra controlled all of the three rounds against Romania’s 15-year-old Florin-Nelu Ulmeanu to earn his nation’s first title in Kienbaum.
England’s Frankie Smith was highly confident in the whole competition including in his final against Azerbaijan’s Shahin Aslanov, while his teammate, Sonny Hollingsworth claimed a silver in Kienbaum after his loss to Bohdan Kozak of Ukraine at the 66kg but Michael Maughan reached the top of the podium at the 75kg.
Germany’s Alberto Antochi started the first round well against Ukraine’s Mykyta Koval but his opponent came back to the business in the second. The German mobilized all of his remaining power and he won the title of the 70kg in the front of the home crowd.
Montenegro’s Matija Roganovic delivered his best performance just in the final against Georgia’s Aleksandr Baladze which was his nation’s top success in 2025.
