Kabayel stops Knyba in round three

Per-Ake Persson

WBC Interim heavyweight champ Agit Kabayel (27-0, 19 KOs) stopped big Pole Damian Knyba (17-1) in round three in Oberhausen on Saturday night, overcoming a bad start in the first when he walked into a few hefty right uppercuts and was cut over the left eye.

In the second round the champion, on hometown turf in Oberhausen, got going and hurt Knyba to the body and the head.

In the third Kabayel came out smoking and Knyba was in trouble from the start and the German hurt him with left hooks to the body and right hands to the head. Knyba was close to going down but didn’t but he was out on his feet when English referee Mark Tyson made an early stoppage that was protested by Knyba and his corner but there was nowhere to go for the big US-based man from Poland and one must say the stoppage was correct. It was stopped at 2.36 of the third round.
