Kavaliauskas relinquishes the EBU title

Lithuanian welter Evgidijus Kavaliauskas (25-3-1) has relinquished the EBU title.
The EBU had set purse bids for January 8 for Kavaliuskas’ mandatory defence against Belgian Anas Messaoudi (17-0-1).
The winner of a Kavaliauskas vs Messaoudi fight would then have Spaniard Samuel Molina as a mandatory challenger.
Molina (25-3-1) lost the title to Kavaliauskas on a close, split decision in Lithuania and in his fight before that he drew with Messaoudi on a close, majority decision draw.
Since Kavaliuaskas decided to relinquish the title, EBU has set now January 28 as the deadline for purse bids for what is a very hot matchup – between Messaoudi and Molina.
As for Kavaliauskas there is no immediate news on his next move.
