Maekinen, Myllymaeki and Mbata won the most anticipated quarter-finals at the Golden Girl Box Cup on Day1

Finland’s Teresa Maekinen, her teammate, Laura Myllymaeki and Nigeria’s Patricia Mbata won the most anticipated quarter-final contests in the 16^th Golden Girl Box Cup in Boras, Sweden on Day1.

Ireland’s Esther Lambe had the height advantage in her opener against Finland’s Anna Tyni and she used that well in the first round but her opponent found the distance in the second. The Irish girl was enough punctual in the third round and she won their tight meeting at the 57kg weight class.

Sweden’s most experienced female national team member, Jenny Lundberg had a strong start against Grace Massey and she looked stronger in the exchanges than her English rival in this 57kg quarter-final bout.  

Finland’s Teresa Maekinen is a titleholder in the Golden Girl but she had a dangerous opponent as first, Germany’s Lena Buchner who moved down to the 57kg but from the second round, she dominated their fight.

Denmark’s Alice Bennedbaek was a big surprise in the last edition of the Golden Girl and she returned to Boras with confidence. The Danish boxer, who has only 23 bouts, used her aggressive style to beat Germany’s Hamburg-based Lena Sajaloli in their quarter-final.

Norway’s Francine Ahadi Lukungu faced Finland’s Laura Myllymaeki in a top elite 48kg bout which was a final level contest on Day1. The Finnish boxer reduced the fighting distance well enough and her attacking style guaranteed the success today.

England’s Amy Nolan is an experienced Golden Girl boxer and moved forward without any stoppage to beat her teammate, Brodie Stephenson at the 65kg before Netherlands’ Keona Samsin eliminated Norway’s star, Madeleine Angelsen.

Nigeria’s Olympian Patricia Mbata had to meet Denmark’s most experienced female boxer, Ditte Frostholm in an anticipated quarter-final at the 70kg.
