Taylor to retire after Dublin fight in summer
Katie Taylor (25-1, 6 KOs) plans to retire from boxing this year, after one more fight in Dublin.
Two-weight undisputed champion, said she plans to fight in “Croke Park” stadium in Dublin this summer. Opponent and date hasn’t been yet confirmed.
“I just want to fight in Dublin to end my career,” Taylor told RTE on Wednesday. “Obviously we’re still hoping for Croke Park, we’re hanging on to a bit of hope that it can happen.
“If it doesn’t happen there are plenty of options there. I have obviously fought in the 3Arena a couple of times, the Aviva Stadium is also there. Croke Park would the top of the list.”
Taylor, who is promoted by Eddie Hearn and Matchroom, has pushed to fight at the iconic Croke Park before, but has not yet headlined the 80,000 seat stadium. The Aviva Stadium, home of Ireland’s rugby team, seats 51,000, while Taylor has already fought at the 3Arena, an indoor venue.
