Marissa Williamson is the surprise at the Australian National Olympic Trials

The Australian National Olympic Trials was the qualification event for their best female and male boxers to the upcoming Pacific Games. Western Australia’s Perth was the host of the National Qualification Event where six women and seven men boxers managed to win their gold medals.

The Pacific Games will serve as the Oceanian Qualification Tournament for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The Pacific Games will be held in Honiara, Solomon Islands this November and the 13 winners will earn their quota places for the next year’s Olympic Games.

Australia is chasing its first Olympic gold medal in boxing and their Brisbane will be the host of the 2032 Olympic Games . The Australians have long term strategic programs until that Summer Olympics.

The 21-year-old Marissa Williamson (66kg) is relatively new in the international stage but she had the emerging performance in the National Qualifiers and she defeated a World silver medallist veteran, Kaye Scott, delivering a huge surprise in Perth.

Another silver medallist from the Women’s World Boxing Championships, Caitlin Parker (75kg) defeated her main national rival, Lekeisha Pergoliti.

Australia’s best male boxer, the Olympic Games bronze medallist, Harry Garside returned to the events with a success over Ahmad Reda at the light welterweight (63.5kg).

The Commonwealth Games silver medallist Callum Peters (80kg) triumphed over Kirra Rushton, while the new super heavyweight (+92kg) sensation, Teremoana Teremoana was also gold medallist in Perth.
