Young hopes as Ibarretxe and Flores amazed on the third day of boxing in Palencia
The men’s semi-finals were held at the 1st Enrique Rodriguez Cal U22 Memorial Tournament on the third competition day in Palencia, North Spain.
Spain, England, France, Romania, Hungary and Wales all impressed in the third session and the men’s light welterweight (63.5kg) delighted the crowd today evening.
Spain’s powerful Salvador Flores was better in the semi-finals in comparison to his first fight in Palencia and his energetic shots decided the bout against England’s Louie Ward still in the first round. Flores landed tough hooks in the opening round and after the second standing count the referee stopped their contest and confirmed Flores’ RSC triumph.
The second Spanish boxer in this light welterweight (63.5kg), the World Boxing Championships competitor Oier Ibarretxe also advanced to the final, the 20-year-old talent had a smart performance against Osama Mohamed of England.
Altogether 73 young boxers including ten girls will compete for the gold medals in the historic first edition Enrique Rodriguez Cal U22 Memorial Tournament.
Belgium, England, France, Hungary, Lithuania, Romania, Scotland, Spain, Ukraine and Wales are the participating nations in this U22 international tournament.
The finals of the competition will be held on Saturday from 16:00 local time.
