Olympic stars as Bibossynov and Dusmatov will meet in the next round of the Asian Games
The second competition day delivered further knockouts, RSCs and close battles in Hangzhou, China where some of the boxers joined the quarter-finals following their victories.
A record number of 238 boxers from 38 countries are participating in the boxing event of the Asian Games in Hangzhou. Among them 34 boxers, including 20 females will earn their Olympic quotas for Paris 2024.
Chinese Taipei’s World Champion Chen Nien Chin, another World gold medallist, Yang Liu of China, Thailand’s Janjaem Suwannapheng, Kazakhstan’s powerful Natalya Bogdanova and South Korea’s Seon Su Jin all advanced to the quarter-finals at the women’s welterweight (66kg).
The North Koreans amazed in the opening day and their team continued the winning path on Day2 as well when their top male talent, So Chon Ryong eliminated Bahrain’s ex-Kazakh boxer, Azat Makhmetov at the men’s flyweight (51kg).
Thailand’s promising Thitisan Panmod bowed out his main regional rival from the Southeast Asian area, Philippines’ Asian U22 Champion Aaron Jude Bado landing his strong combinations in the second round.
The stars of the men’s flyweight (51kg), the World Champions, Saken Bibossynov of Kazakhstan and Hasanboy Dusmatov of Uzbekistan both won their contests on Day2 but they have to meet each other in a re-match in the next preliminary stage.
India’s Nishant Dev was bronze medallist at the recent World Boxing Championships and he had the strong performance against Nepal’s veteran Dipesh Lama in the light middleweight (71kg) today.
Uzbekistan’s Asadkhudja Muydinkhudjayev is the World Champion at the welterweight (67kg) but he moved up to the light middleweight (71kg) and opened his campaign with a strong performance against DPR Korea’s Ryang Jang Thae.
