The European Men’s Elite Cup will start on Sunday
The European Men’s Elite Cup will start with its first competition day in Budva, Montenegro on October 8, Sunday.
The city of Budva was the host of the 2020 and 2021 editions of the European Youth Boxing Championships, the 2022 European Women’s Elite Boxing Championships and further international tournaments in the previous years.
Budva will have another important event next month, the European U22 Boxing Championships for the female and male boxers as well.
The Technical Meeting and the Official Draw will be held on Saturday afternoon in Montenegro. Staring from October 8, seven competition days are in the schedule including the finals on October 14, which will take place in the Old City Wall.
The competition will feature in all of the 13 categories from the minimumweight (48kg) up to the super heavyweight (+92kg).
Several of the participating teams are already in the venue in an international training camp to make the final preparations in Montenegro.
Altogether 29 nations have registered to participate in the European Men’s Elite Cup and more than 170 boxers are expected to compete for the 13 gold medals in Budva.
Albania, Armenia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, France, Greece, Hungary, Israel, Italy, Kosovo, Latvia, Malta, Moldova, Montenegro, Netherlands, North Macedonia, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and Turkey are planning to compete in Budva.
Among the participating boxers, France’s European Games winner duo, Billal Bennama and the two-time World Champion Sofiane Oumiha could be the stars of the Cup.
The first edition of the European Men’s Elite Cup was held in Kharkiv, Ukraine in 2010 and after thirteen years of hiatus, but the officials decided to re-launch this men’s competition with money prizes.
